yes, planting it deeper in the pot saved it. the inside pot was sealing the water in the inside pot. and the only way for the water to escape was the few times you drained it, so when it was not drained it would have to evaporate back thru the soil and past the corm. by the look of the roots they were way to wet and rotting. take something and put it under the inside pot so the top rim does not touch the outside pot, not much get the rim up about 3, 4 millimeters. that way air can flow between the 2 pots. then water can evaporate between them. but it would still be better to just set the plastic pot on a plate. the way you had them they were self watering and that is not what you want. glad to see it coming back. or buy you a designer pot with the matching plate.
