Thank you all for your support. I feel I can now say that he committed suicide with a shotgun in front of his S.O. of 22 years, with whom he had been arguing. Alcoholism was involved. His S.O. feels she thinks he really didn't want to do this but was trying to scare her. In any case, Anger+Alcohol+Guns=Tragedy. He was depressed for some years since his daughter died after a failed heart transplant. If you have seen the movie The Fifth Quarter, you saw a somewhat fictionalized account of her transplant. Heartache, anger, feelings of what could we have done differently are probably never to be resolved.
