I've found the same up here above you on the hill, longan and lychee are doing very well. The rambutan is dragging its feet. I'm inclined to think part of the problem is all the high winds we've had during the last year +. When I bought my first rambutan I was told that they did not like windy conditions. Between Iselle, the Kona wind and the other windy days, my poor rambutan has taken a beating. The only thing it has going for it is the fact that it puts out new growth at least 2X per year. They need to be protected from winds. I hope it will outgrow needing to be protected, otherwise it's doomed. Yours looks to be in much better shape than mine. You should'a kept it.

What have I been killing?
Ice Cream Bananas, by the dozens.
I transplanted a dozen pups from another location.
They like it there and are reproducing like weeds crowding each other and trying to spread into areas setup for other things to grow in. I have dug up all but 2 of the 12 original clumps and am digging up anything that pops up again.
It's like trying to clear invasives off the property, maybe even harder to do.
