Default Re: Can I get ripe bananas in zone 7 Virginia?

The timeline on the poor Orinoco was like this:

July: Got baby Orinoco from Well Spring
July: Orinoco was chopped in half during the building of the porch swing
August: Orinoco returned to almost the size it was when it arrived
September/October: Growth stopped for the winter
January-February: Severe cold snaps, Orinoco did ok on my living room table
March: Placed Orinoco on the porch while we had 70 degrees, took it in at night.
March: One overnight freeze and some snow, during which Orinoco was back on my living room table.
March: Orinoco said that freeze was too much and he hated watching snow. Orinoco rotted.
March: I said, "Seriously?"

Some of that is interpreted from the original Banana.

:P But no, I don't really know what happened. The Truly Tiny was so close, they were touching pots. If there was a draft, the Truly Tiny ought to have gone first, except that the Orinoco was pretty puny. I figure I'll trade a half a zone cold tolerance for faster growth (especially if it is coming in anyway) and quite possibly some bananas I will want to eat vs what the store has to offer.
