Party Banana life span

With a potted Super Dwarf grown indoors how long can you expect the mother plant to live if it does not bear fruit?

I understand that eventually the mother plant dies off even if it doesn't bear fruit, and so it puts out pups to replace its self.

When the plant dies you can cut off the stock and it will start over correct? Or - do you take out the old corm and replace it with a pup?

I'm just wondering how long they can live before you start to see it die.

Thank you! =)
