Blood leaf Bananas
Last Spring I was given a Blood Leaf banana and planted it in the backyard! It did well and come fall in Michigan had to dig it up and bring it inside for the winter! It has about five pups and the mother plant still growing. I just circled it and dug taking what soil was on the roots and placed it in a plastic bag and then placed it in a large pot for support! Living in a multilevel I stored it in the lower level. It has been about 4 months, ( beginning of last October), have given it an occasional sip of water ... still have the center leafs growing and are green! I plan on replanting it in the ground this Spring once the chance of frost is no longer a threat! Has anyone ever done this here in Michigan and how successful were they? I also have a Himalayan banana that has done well for the last two summers in a pot and have brought it in the house as well. All the leafs are gone but the whole trunk which is about 4 feet tall is still green. Do you think it also will regrow leafs once the warm weather comes back? Thanks for your comments! ....Jerry Sams
