Even though I am in college, I have found a way to take my banana plant obsession along with me for the ride. And on top of that, I'm learning about cultivating other types of plants, composting, and sustainable urban gardening in general. I'm now a regular volunteer at the campus garden, The Forge. And I must say, it has gotten to be quite impressive since it went under new management last fall. Here are some pictures from today and yesterday (no, they have not been edited in any way, shape, or form):
Tomatoes:
Squash:
Flowers:
The bananas I have planted:
Misi Luki Namwah from Encanto Farms
Blue Java from Encanto Farms
Pisang Ceylon
Other plants:
Variegated eggplant?
Massive watermelons
A fig tree with pumpkins
Seed starting in the greenhouse for our winter crop
Broccoli from last winter's crop that we never removed. Still tastes good.
Other stuff:
Beehives!
The greenhouse
A planter box right next to the greenhouse
So there you have it! A virtual tour of the late summer/early fall Forge Garden at SCU! All of that is growing on a half acre that was barely planted and overgrown with weeds in many areas just a year ago. If you happen to be in the area, feel free to drop by and check it out. We also have a farm stand where we sell our produce on Fridays from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. More info including where we are located can be found
here. I'm looking forward to a great cool season!
