I went to a nursery today and someone was complaining about seed germination and on how to successfully transplant the germinated seeds later. This method works really good for me and as there are some eggs involved, I thought I would post this as it is Easter weekend.
Seed germination in empty egg cartons: I just put some seed starter in each compartment and add a seed in it. Cover and water. After they have sprouted, they can be transplanted with the egg carton without disturbing the newly build roots.
Same with eggs: In the picture I have planted a little succulent in a chicken egg (yes, my chickens lay blue/green eggs and I do not have to dye my Easter eggs, breed is called Ameraucaner), because I will give those away as some little Easter gifts. But I also sprout seeds in there (lately the papaya seeds from Bob3) and the entire egg shell can be transplanted later to the spot where you want the plant to live. The egg shell and egg carton will just dissolve and the roots of your seedlings will never be disturbed.
