It doesn' t matter that much provided there is a big difference between the high and low temperature.
I'm also beginning to think that sikkimensis needs a cool stratification period in the fridge. Always had good results doing this

I think you could be right about cold stratification! Because accidentally I left few seeds in zipped bag on my balcony which is unheated and where temperature falls down to 5-10 degrees, what was my surprise when during routine check I found big Sikki sprout there in the middle of winter

Actually this was the only one I've manage to sprout so far, unfortunately it died later :P
What about Balbasiana I think it's require similar temperature variation conditions?
