here are my two pineapples i started from crown in august 2012:

(among tamarindus indica, strelitzia reginae and ... nanners of course)

dry tips on the leaves is ok but yours seems to have totally dry leaves.

i have cut dry tips as you can see on picture.
i put mines in pot when roots were 25 mm long (coco soil).
(maybe 2 month in water or so to reach that step)
water changed every 2 /3 days.
