I want Hawaiian apple banana plants. Please.
Aloha. We had incredible apple banana plants at our home on Kaua`i, but we had to destroy them all - they got bunchy-top virus. We're trying again, but we also want these plants for our home in Los Angeles. I hate the standard supermarket bananas - make me choke, tasteless. In Hawai`i we sometimes refer to the apple bananas as Brazilian bananas, and also strawberry bananas. Can anyone tell me where I can get some plants/rhizomes? And whether the growing conditions here are good enough? Last year we got only 9 inches of rain, but we have good irrigation and a huge water bill. Southwest-facing, plenty of sun, but the soil is very weird - clay, I think, but seems sandy, too, and water runs right off the top of it like it's Gore-tex. All I want is a decent banana! Mahalo nui loa for any kokua. Or brigada, as the case may be.
