There are some folks online that can be grouchy when you have a different point of view, but then there are a few that just become vengeful -- seeking out opportunities to be insulting, either directly or through poorly disguised innuendo. Responding to this kind of activity will just fuel the fire. If it persists over a period of weeks, then just add them to your ignore list and your life will become blissful again.
