Default Chinese water chestnuts

Having enjoyed these in chinese cusine many times, I just found out that they can be grown at home. We want to try this and probably wiil but thought that seeking as much info as possible we may have good succss.
Has anyone grown these? Searched the net and got a lot of info but there is still some missing. We live in zone 9b and have a long enough growing season but it is almost over now for something like this and would like to try them now. Has anyone grown these inside? Thanks
