Mark are you sure you have a Basjoo there ? The leaves look to wide and glossy and also the deep burgundy under colour makes me think its a Sikkimensis.

The soil should be ok for a while. you could always give it a feed then top dress a few inches on top to perk it up a bit.

Hopefully one of the experts on here will ID your banana if its not what I think it is
