That's definitely a bummer! I'm wondering if your soil was very wet or something as I cannot imagine an otherwise healthy banana just falling over due to the extra weight a bud added. Have you recently had a lot of rain? How high have your winds been lately?

The only time I ever lost a trunk like that was a couple of years ago when Hurricane Rita passed just to the east of where I live. I came home from Ft. Worth where we stayed for a few days to find one of my pseudostems full of ftuit on the ground. Luckily, they were mostly mature and I was able to cut the hand off and save them. I was actually not too upset, considering that was the only damage I had whatsoever. Sorry about your banana.
