Default Re: Musa siamensis~Thai Gold

Kylie2X,

I'm trying to get one going that I received from member Steve L. He very generously sent me a 'Thai Gold' and a Musa uranoscopus recently. The uranoscopus is unfurling a new leaf while the Thai Gold is not doing anything yet. I'm sure it will soon though, as it seemed to have a good roots. From what I have read and what Steve tells me, it is a running banana, much like M. laterita. If you're growing yours in the ground, don't be surprised to find pups shooting up several feet away from your original plant. I got tired of constantly chopping up pups and trying to keep my M. laterita contained and finally put it in a pot this year, and it now has three blooms on it! My supspiscion is that siamensis is closely related to laterita. Good luck with yours. Check out Steve L's photo gallery for a good picture of his Thai Gold and some awesome heliconia pics!
