Sugar cane is plentiful, I see it all over Maui, yet this little section is $4.99. I went to a roadside foodstand, chatted up the owner a bit, he just took out a machete and got me an 8'er grown behind his shack, for free.
Rambutans and longans for $7.99 a pound? I didn't buy any. I can get 'em in Orange County for much less, and fresher too. Funny thing is, the Longans I buy are "imported" from Hawaii, yet they're cheaper when bought in CA. I would think that in HI climate, one could grown rambutans easily.
All in all, a wonderful trip, as always. Hoping to move there someday.
