You could probably try out parvifolia which seems to be my hardiest species right now, even getting less leaf burn than rufa at approximately the same size. It also has very flexible culms that bend to the ground under the snow especially since it produces lots of foliage. This species might actually get to a decent size in your climate because mine looks very bushy now and primed for a huge leap in size next year.
