You can put any banana in any sized pot, but it depends on what your goals are. If if its just to let it grow for a bit, then a 5gal is fine, but it will only be able to grow to a certain size before it will be limited. At that point it will continue to grow new leaves and can be held like this indefinitely, but it will not get any taller and will need to be moved to a larger container to get taller. A 5gal pot can produce a 3-4ft plant usually. This size pot is not large enough for it to fruit though. To fruit, it should be moved to about a 15-20gal pot, but even this will limit it and it will be smaller than it would be in the groud. Bananas require quite a lot of soil in order to get full sized, the only practical way to achieve maximum growth is to have them in the ground.
