Yeah, I wouldn't trim off any roots. It is just going to stress the plant more and make the transplant much harder on it. Might even cause the plant to go into shock and lose some leaves. Honestly, when I transplant my bananas, I don't even TOUCH the roots and they always spring back perfectly without any problems. Most of the stories I hear about people messing with the roots result in stressful transplants and issues.
