My name is Patrick & I have had banana plants in my yard for about 5 years now & the only year I had any success in keeping them alive over the winter (I live 15 miles north of Atlanta Ga) was last year when I had two plants about 10 feet high each. I wrapped the ball with ground cover & a blanket & they both survived the winter and grew to about 12-14 feet tall over the summer. I did the same with them this past Nov but I'm not convinced they will survive this severe weather. Complicating the matter is I have no clue as to what kind or strain they are but I absolutely love these plants as does my wife. Can someone describe the m ost popular kinds along with their names so I can begin to understand how to get them to survive the winter. Thanks.
