Default Sothern CA Plantain advice wanted

I've done some searches here, but haven't found a good answer to this question:

I live in central San Diego (Zone 10) I'd like to grow edible Plantains (ok, my WIFE is Plantain Crazy ).

What cultivar grows well in our clay, alkaline soil? (or do I dig a BIG hole?)

Average rainfall here is ~12 inches (although we have 1/2 that this year). Would accumulation of salts from irrigation water be a concern?

Thanks!
