strange banana blossom
Hello,
I seem to be having a herd time finding an answer to my query so I figured I'd try to find a banana enthusiast forum. Sure enough, I found one. Cool stuff!
I'm not sure if this is in the right section but here goes:
I've lots of banana plants around my koi pond which return year after year (temperate zone). I've grown accustomed to seeing the same purple pod blossoms but this year an odd one sprouted out of one of the larger plants. It's a rather thick stemmed and quite elongated. It's triple, possibly quadruple the length of a normal one and rather slender. It's mostly green with only slight hints of the deep purple the others display. The very ends of the leaves on the pod have a sort of flap on it reminiscent of the two fins on the front of a squid (know what I mean?). The blossom in question is still rather new and hasn't developed beyond the description above, nor have any of the leaves opened up, as of yet (true stem is still rather short). But I've got my eye on it.
Could this be a strictly male plant? Does that exist among bananas?
If not, what then?
I'm charging my camera as we speak and can procure photos if need be.
Thanks, in advance, for any help I may receive.
Paul
