n the past month there have been many reports of Shortfin Corvina being caught all over Mission Bay and San Diego Bay in water less than 15'. They are bigger this year over 6lbs. Most of them are being caught on live bait many have been caught on lures. I got one last week that was 21" and about 5lbs. I thought I had a barry at first but the fish broke water 3 times before being landed. Many people think that they are short White Sea Bass as they look very similar. The big givaway is their orange mouth and 2 fanglike teeth. Are there any Corvina being caught up North?

sea trout - Google Search

Sea trout have the same orange mouth and two fang like teeth.

I've heard of vinas being caught in Newport last month.

Wow nice ones! I was planning a sunset session tonight but just got home from HB and feeling a little lazy after a big meal at Fathers Office.

We have a good minus tide on a new moon coming up. Some places that have drop offs that are normally unreachable from the beach will be. Would be cool if I had more bottom detail info of my local beaches. I think I need a yak or boat with a fish finder to find and log these areas. Someday!

Not really. You can see some hard structure like rocks etc but sandy bottoms are hard to see.
