When to harvest pineapple?
 

So during the summer of 2004, I took a crown from one of the supermarket pineapples and rooted it. It grew bigger and bigger with each summer on my balcony, and this fall before bringing it in I noticed a bloom forming in the center.



It's now at a pretty decent size and I'm wondering when I should harvest it? It still looks fairly green at the base, but it's beginning to tip and hasn't really grown in size for about a month.





And one other question: after I do harvest, what next? Will this plant bear again, or should I chuck it?
