I bought the rhizome for $12.99 from

and potted it on 5/14/22. The average price is around $50 so I got a bargain.

It's a praying hands!! Hard to get good photos of it, had to wash them out to see anything.

I'm sure you are close! This is about 15 months from TC. I already removed a huge pup off it and put it in the other corner of the yard.

Heliconia psittacorum x spathocircinata 'Golden Torch'



This heliconia is a relatively slow grower. I potted the rhizome on 10/15/21. I have another heliconia from another seller that is labelled the same but is a much more vigorous grower. It might bloom within 2 months.

Well, its finally happening. P. nigra cultivars are flowering and it seems to be happening to many of the different nigra varieties.

We may lose the beloved temperate black bamboo that has been so popular for the last few decades.

No love lost for a lot of folks I am sure, but it will be missed.

If you are one of those unlucky folks who has an inconsiderate bamboo growing neighbor, and they have a nigra cultivar, you may be in luck, as they almost always die after flowering

Of course flowering means seeds, which may give rise to some cool new varieties if we are lucky :D

Strelitzia.bird of paradise, I have the white version ( nicolia) also but I doubt it will ever flower
