Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010

34/50 sprouted and survived = 68%
my personal best before was 58%...woo hoo!

the largest ones are three weeks old now. One is already big enough to ship, with 4" diameter pads.

Very nice, Sandy! Glad to hear of your successes. So how do you ship such a thing?

PS...excellent use of that recycled cattle trough!

Nice, got any pics of the flowers?

I love these! I can remember when some of our horticulturists at MBG used to come in at night to pollinate them (the natural pollinator is a moth in S. America) and then wait to see if the pollination took. They are definitely cool plants.

It starts out as white than turns rose pink.

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010

I was friends with the guy who took care of the one's at MBG and when a leaf started to die at come apart, he'd have to take a pitch fork to lift it out of the water to protect his hands from the thorny underside.

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010

They're thorny? They look like they'd be slimy....interesting! Always great to learn new things!

Re: Victoria Longwood Hybrid class 0f 2010

Yes, they are very thorny on the undersides, I presume to protect them from grazing fish/other animals.

this picture shows the thorns, kind of. They're real sharp like a rose.
