Default Viability of papaya seeds - floating test

I have received some Papaya seeds of a variety I did not have.
They looked kind of dried out, so I decided to do the floating seed test by soaking them in warm water. All are floating. I guess that is a sign of old, most likely non-viable seeds. Does anyone have experience with that?

I have papaya sprouting from fruit that fell and broke well over a year ago. I'll bet that your seeds will sprout.

the dry seeds have a coating
the shape of the seed will collect air pockets as well
they normally float. im sure the seeds are fine.

Thanks guys. I had great success with Papaya seeds in the past. With these: they are in a nice fluffy soil mix for almost 4 weeks now, but absolutely nothing. Ordered some new seeds at a different place, but I know it is a gamble with mail ordered.

ive had excellent results with University of Hawaii seed program
Agricultural Diagnostic Service Center - Seed Program

Aloha seed is OK, but, i like UH better

they like heat i found.
temps in the mid 80s F usually get mine to germinate a lot faster.
keep them moist, but not wet

where did you get the seed ?

Yes, University of Hawaii seeds are absolutely the best. I have Sunrise, Sunset and Waimanolo/X-77 from them and they grow like weeds.
This time I really wanted to try the "Kaek Dahm" variety.

That is the one ....Not even one seed sprouted, while pretty much all of the UH seeds did.
Bummer, but I got my money refunded, so all is good.
