South American Sapote, Chupa chupa
The name "south american sapote" has been given to this fruit by European authors over the last century. The most common name in Peru (according to research reports) is Chupa-chupa, translated "chewy-chewy". In the wild, trees produce 2000 to 3000 fruits per year. There is also a documented cultivar in northern Peru that has a less fiberous and more flavorful fruit.
