Pink china survived fine here in z5
I know maybe this wasn't the best winter to test these out fully because of the mild winter--but all 4 of the pink china colocasias that I planted last spring survived winter and are putting out new growth. All of them I planted one foot deep using post hole diggers. Two of them I threw one bag of leaves on top of them after frost, the other two I didn't do anything to. The ones with one bag of leaves are slightly bigger, having come up a little faster. Also Chicago hardy fig is coming up from about a foot off the ground.
I haven't seen any growth yet on the other plants I have experimented with that really aren't hardy here but I did plant a foot deep and mulch with a couple bags of leaves, but they look like I might possibly get some growth eventually, they are still firm down on the corms: thai black musa, and bordelon musa. maybe I'll have more reports later on.... |
Re: Pink china survived fine here in z5
I lost my Pink Chinas 2 winters ago. However, I didn't get all my cannas out last fall, and so far I see Phaison, Intrigue, NOID, and Baby Girl Pink are starting to show!.
