WOW Cam that is GREAT!!! Isn't that exciting when you see them so fast?

Greg, Sherry's advice is spot on. Don't give up, we can help you through it. Sherry and I both have had failures in our AG's. We just don't talk about them as much as we do our successes. We both have multiple AG units also so our percentages of success are higher that way too. I tried 6 times before I finally got a Little Blue pepper plant to get started. And probably at least that many times before I finally got a strawberry seed to sprout. I am hard headed, so I naturally want to WIN! I just keep trying.

One thing you night want to try is a seed kit directly from AeroGrow. They guarantee them to sprout and grow or your money back or replacement. They are more expensive but might be worth it for you.

I have more problems with algae than mold. I keep a tiny spray bottle that is half water and half hydrogen peroxide and spritz the seeds if they have an inkling of white fuzzy mold. It zaps it immediately. But the algae will grow on the sponge and sometimes cover the seed before it has a chance to sprout. Some seeds just take longer than others. Sherry told me that's where the little paper covers come in - they keep the light off the sponges so the algae doesn't have a chance to grow.

You might try some marigold seeds. They have sprouted really fast for me. Sherry's suggestion of peppers and tomatoes are good too. They may not be exactly what you want to grow right off the bat, but it will be good practice.

I am too Cam! Will you be able to collect seeds from them? I would like to get some seeds from the French vanilla but I think Sherry told me you can't when they are grown indoors. Sherry when you read this be sure and tell us!

You see that groaty algae is growing on mine again already. I will take and clean the baskets tonight, though I can't do anything about the sponge.

Take some new pictures of it for us Cam. You know we like seeing every little growth bit of them...I never get tired of seeing them grow - even if they are someone elses!!!

It looks perfect Cam! Don't you love that? That is one thing that I really love about the AG's. No GRASSHOPPERS to chew them up!

I am trying to remember, I think it was only a few weeks from sprouting until blooming with my Thumbelina zinnia. I may start another one to see if I get a different color. I always want to grow what everyone else is growing to compare notes! (and because I get a little jealous! ) I know when we see those candy striped ones Sherry and I will be drooling! BUT then you can drool over my double blossom petunias, right? I should be able to get seeds on those - my regular ones make seed inside. I have a little collection started to send you Cam - I will check with you right before I send it in case you already have it.

Its good that we don't have to deal with pest like grasshoppers lol. I had so many of those earlier in the year and they ate a lot of my seedlings. I can't wait to see your double bloom petunia. I didn't know there were double flowering petunias until you and Sherry brought them up. I actually have a few zinnia seeds left over that I could send you, so you wouldn't have to wait until mine produces seeds. I also need to remember to send you the Apple Blossom oleander. I have 6 cuttings that rooted for me and I lost only 2.

Cam if you get a chance, it is a good time right now to collect seeds. I have noticed seed pods on Mimosa, Catalpa, Mesquite, Trumpet vine, and I don't know how many others. I plan on seed gathering this week.

I love mesquite trees and catalpas. A friend gave me some catalpa seeds and I killed them because I forgot to water them. I don't see very many mesquite trees around here but I have seen a couple of catalpa trees near me. I love mimosa trees but I rarely see those around here. I'll look around to see if there are any trees at the local parks

I have some lemon basil that is sprouting, the lettuce are still doing well but darn it all i to have a fuzzy mold problem on one of my passion fruit pods, and one of my guava pods. i have two pods of passion fruit, two pods of guava, with a different variety in each. So far none of them have sprouted but not sure why one spounge has lots of fuzzy mould, and another has none at all. I'm not all that discouraged, in the mean time i have some papaya and cherimoya soaking up the extra light

Luke I use peroxide when the white fuzzy mold shows up. Basil is a good grower for me. It will get huge! It spread out and tried to take over. Mine was the "purple" from AeroGrow. Luke, post some pictures for us, please!

Cam if you want any of those seeds that I mentioned just let me know and I will include them in the seeds I am sending you. I love starting tree seeds.

I had some columbine seeds that developed mold and eventually rotted. I put peroxide in mine every so often like Janan said. It definitely helps alot. Passion fruit seems to take a long time to sprout. Mine took 2 months to finally pop up but it wasn't in my aero garden. Janan I would love seeds from mesquite, mimosa and catalpa trees. My mom loves mimosas, she said she had a few trees at her house in Elkhart when she was a child. I love trumpet vine but I don't have any trellises to grow it. I'm having major issues with my wisteria, its growing through the windows and it actually came into the house, its also tearing the siding from my house. I love wisteria but it can be a menace. I made the mistake of planting it too close to the house

Okey Dokey Cam!

I have my Dutchman's Pipe Blooming! It has two "pipes" on it right now. It was a shock as it had wound around behind a chair and both of them were hidden from me. So, I have no idea what they looked like before this stage. And yes it is still in the AeroGarden!!! Is this cool or what???

I don't know. I guess because of the air bubbles in the water???? You know what I would love to do is the one with the fish. The fish are in the water underneath the plants. That is just so impressive to me.

How come you haven't started yours yet? Did the sponges you got from your Hydro shop not work? I know you are waiting on some stuff from Sherry too. I tried all sorts of stuff when I first started. I bought some cheapo sponge rollers and tried those sponges (didn't work - sponges were plastic material and only stayed wet on one side). And used the clips from brush rollers as baskets (those worked). I used the clear ketchup containers for humidity domes (worked). I had quite the conglomeration! But you can't say I didn't try!

I figured it would just be better to wait and get the stuff from Sherry then to mess around and get plants started in other material. Then have the stuff right for it and not be able to move the plants.

I didn't think about having one with fish. I guess the waste from the fish could serve as some sort of crude fertilizer for the plants.

When you have a body of water, and then have air bubbles (most likely from an air stone) in hydroponics it is called a deep water culture. Which is what the aerogardens are. I think that the "aero" part was just a marketing tactic, because growing plant's in air sounds more interesting then water And most people (who don't grow plants as extensively as we do) water sounds harder to care for and keep clean then air does.

Wow Janan that is so cool! I was wanting to grow some morning glories in my aero garden but I was afraid they would take over the whole thing.

Cam I don't know if it would work with Morning Glories, but most plants you can just cut back to keep them under control. I really like a wild jungle look, so I rarely cut anything unless Sherry makes me. This vine is a fairly slow grower and hasn't gotten wild yet. But the Mexican Bird of Paradise that is in the same unit has really gone crazy. I will try to get a fresh picture of it today. I'm not afraid to "try" anything in them. The crazier the idea the better I like it! In fact, I think morning glories with their heart shaoed leaves would look really pretty in there! ~J
