Getting Paw Paw fruits this year!

Last year was first time for a few blossoms on my 2 trees, but no fruit. This year, both trees had several blossoms that I hand pollinated & now have several baby fruits on!!!
This one is a little tricky to pollinate...first stage is female stage & 2nd stage (of each blossom) is male stage. You have to find the pollen in the male stage & then on other tree (to cross), find females to pollinate. Well, this time it worked! I got them bareroot in maybe 04 -I think. After first few years of very slow growing, they took off the last 3.
I never tasted one before or even saw one, so this is exciting for me.
No one around here has a pawpaw & only a few even heard of it.

Great start. I grow pawpaws in same zone, over in Iowa. If you like tropical fruits you'll probably be in the lucky half that likes pawpaws.

Two new things that are not up yet, about enjoying the fruit. If you cut out the "umbilicals" you can remove 90% of any bitterness (if you have seedlings some will have a touch of it). Or if you serve with ice cream it will almost over-neutralize any off flavors and is not a bad way to get new guys to give pawpaws a chance.

I have tasted cherimoya & someone once said they are similar. I wasn't crazy about cherimoya... don't care if I ever eat one again. Can anyone compare the two?

I always wanted to try cherimoya and the taste description for Pawpaw sounds similar. I have never tried pawpaw either! They look like cool fruits and arent they natives ?!

Yes, pawpaw's are native to our northeast. It was George Washington's fave desert.
Cherimoya are very bland tasting & a creamy texture with a ton of seeds. It coulda lost its flavor being shipped here though.
