Blooms today!

Thanks Nannerfunboi, Tropicanna is a large canna - four to five feet to the top of the leaves with the flower stalks of course taller. :)

This is the first time I've ever seen the bloom on this reddish stripey variety. Here it is today, just beginning to open...

That is very, very pretty! I hope it makes seeds so you can save me some! :) I don't think I have a dwarf anything like this one. I will have to try and find it on the internet. I really like it a lot!!!

Re: Canna Lovers Unite!

My cannas are taking forever to come up this year! They are only a foot tall. Im actually getting a little worried. Usually they are close to blooming height, they are about a month late.

Re: Canna Lovers Unite!

They must be the ones sitting under the compost waiting for next spring :ha::ha::ha: I only bought them a month ago.

I have had other Lillies, my favs will be my new Turkish Lillies sprouting through the compost now....huge one when they flower.

Just put in another Tropicana, some Stuttgarts and Intrigues. Have a Maui Punch on order from Brian. Can't wait.

Re: Canna Lovers Unite!

I usually do not care for lining up a daisy then a pansy then a daisy..., But here I could not help it,
because there was only a 5.0m x 0.43m (16.5' x 17") strip between our deck and the neighbour’s fence.

This picture is of the “full sun” section of that strip, that graduates into almost full shade. It shows
from left a Calla (mostly hidden with the white dots), a Canna Wyoming, a C. Cleopatra, which is just
starting to bloom, another Wyoming, which is developing a flower bud, and another Cleopatra, which
has already bloomed. The strip then continues into increasing shade with Goat’s Beard, some hostas,
a Cimicifuga and in the deepest shade a Przewalsky Ligularia, which gets only ½ hour of sun through
a narrow opening at noon. That is enough to make all its leaves curl up and shrivel :(

But a couple of ours back in shade and it unfolds again in all its glory. :)

Re: Canna Lovers Unite!

A quick question for all of you canna lovers! Does anyone know why cannas would bloom at a shorter height than normal? My Canna indicia red are blooming at about 3 to 4 feet but should bloom at about 5 to 6 feet.

My banana cannas don't seem to be growing fast. I'm giving them plenty of water and fertilizer but they have barely grown.

I got one too I was amazed it bloomed very fast. Faster than most cannas I planted. I like the color of the Maui Punch. I agree Brian has some great plants.:woohoonaner:

I just planted a canna a few weeks ago it bloomed at under one foot tall ! I was shocked. So I guess they have a mind of there own.
