I have A. konjac outside near my koi pond, a lot of shade there. Comes back each year(2 shoots) but no loom after 5 years. Maybe too much shade? I have a A. bulifer inside. just got it this season, already about 2 feet tall with a 2nd shoot coming up.

Here's an update: Just over 48" tall now, spadix is much darker, less shiny and has developed much more texture. The flower itself is over half of that height, too (it's like 30 inches itself). Looking at the last pictures I posted, it looks completely different. This has been very exciting to watch develop!

I have only had small ones bloom thus far. Last one was A. bulbifer, the bloom was about 8" tall and yes, it smelled terrible (but they only stink for a few days). I liken it to rotten garlic or rancid trash...pretty potent and sticks in your nose when you take a whiff. First one I ever had bloom woke me from a dead sleep (and this was only about a 2" flower!). I suspect this time around will be much, MUCH worse.

Do a titanum seedlings have the capability to give off toxins and kill other plants in the same tray?

The dominant one has grown larger while the weaker one eventually rotted away as the other one has really spread it's roots out. Here are the pictures.


I have many other ones not as advanced as these, but I'm afraid having many in the same spot would result in natural selection where only the strongest survives. I'm not sure if there's any way to save this plant.

Unfortunately, I would say that one is done-for. Don't think it can be saved. Not sure what could have happened, really.

Guess I never posted the final pics of my konjac bloom, so here they are:




Right now, I have a bulbifer blooming. 19 inches tall not including the corm.



Found some corpse flowers for sale at Menards (local hardware store like Home Depot only better). Now have Sauromatum venosum and Dracunculus vulgaris. And keeping the addiction alive, also ordered Amorphophallus paeoniifolius, so I have that now as well.

Here are some of the picture of my latest batch of a titanum seedlings. They come up at different rates, and generally all of them will sprout. Some may be genetic misfits, but I think a majority of them should turn out fine.

I had a lot of mine die last year, or end up severely weakened because I never knew they couldn't handle full sun after being used to indoor flourescent lighting.

I just got the seeds off eBay. It does cost about $1.70 per seed even ordering in a bigger quantity.

Here are some of the bigger seedlings. The tallest one is over 8 inches tall, and many of them are leafed out or close to it.

If you are in a tropical climate where the temperature never gets anywhere close to freezing, this is a very interesting plant. Otherwise, they make pretty nice houseplants since they just keep getting bigger and bigger.

Most of the titanum seedlings have fully uncurled their leaves now. It's only a matter of time for them to produce their first shoots and get much bigger than they are. That will likely be by around summer time when they need to go into their own pots.

Got a few Amorphophallus specimens myself; one A. titanum grown from seed, just under a year old right now, has just gone into a slight hibernation period following a trip. Corm on that one's a little bigger than a golf ball; they don't seem to grow too quickly, but underground they're powerhouses if you feed them properly.

Three A. bulbifer specimens from a guy in India (who's provided some of my other exotic seeds as well, though these were all corms); one of the three I thought had died last year, as the corm had shrunk down to the size of a large pea (it was probably about as big around as a penny when I got it), but earlier this month it sent out a super-tiny new leaf. Hopefully it makes a full recovery.

Finally, one Amorphophallus specimen I'm not entirely sure about; it was part of the aforementioned group sold to me as A. bulbifer, but its current leaf actually looks far more like A. konjac. I'll have to take another picture of it at some point, but I'm preeeeetty sure it's not A. bulbifer.

Let's see if I can figure out how to post this picture...



This is that aforementioned "mystery" Amorphophallus. Any thoughts? The splotches are from water that had dripped down onto the plant from another container on a shelf above; that drip has since been rectified, but they have nothing to do with the plant variety itself.

:goteam: Leaves look Bulbifer .....stem looks konjac.
Any telltale signs of a bulbil on the stems.?
When small and immature these plant will look somewhat similar
Once the plant recieves better growing conditions and full sun the look of the plant will change.
The color of the stem will give a better idea once it changes......It should go from less pink to mottled green with a hint of pink and small bumps as it matures.

I do not have current stock with foliage to compare it with.( still dormant)
Too young to tell.....
But if pressed for an answer.....bulbifer.
If your vendor was selling Konjac there could be a chance you got bonus seed.:woohoonaner:

A closer look today in the basement holding area revealed a few of these Konjac tubers wanting to bolt.:08:

So I gathered up the containers and moved them to my much cooler garage.
The cooler area will Slooooooow them down and give me another 60 +days .

These plants are like clockwork really.......they know when it is time to grow.

Some of the titanum seedlings are sprouting their 2nd leaf now. They look to be much bigger than the originals.







The a konjac is finally shooting out too.
