Reminder about offensive content
 

This is a reminder to all members, please do not post anything that is offensive - in images or in threads.

From the rules:

1. No content that is considered racist, sexist, obscene, objectionable, or otherwise offensive comments will be tolerated. All such posts or content will be deleted without notice. This includes avatars and uploaded photos. This could result in the loss of your membership.


Objectionable threads, should you find the desire to post them, should at the bare minimum have a descriptive title if its arguably acceptable content.

You are right...I just didn't know what happened to the thread. I'm not crazy about seeing dead animals either & those pics don't belong on banana forum. It started out as a innocent hunting conversation as hunting has been talked about here, but I can understand how the pics could offend some people. Sorry peeps:(

Thanks, Jarred. While the photos didn't bother me, I was concerned for those that do find them objectionable and sure don't want folks leaving this community because of such content.

I fully understand the photo ban on dead or injured animals but I'd have to say that if I read your post right you want the mere mention of the word hunting banned also. I would have to disagree with that. If its put in the Tiki hut I can not see where it is not proper to speak of it. There are topics in there that are not banana or plant growing related. To just ban a topic because some do not agreee with it is just not right. Where do you draw the line? Just my thought, its your site to run.

While I agree completely with the ban on the pictures- most non-hunters don't want to see dead pictures of furry creatures. Banning all talk of hunting is silly. Unless we're all Bananatarians or vegetarians- you have to recognize that meat comes from living things. A thread about hunting (no pics) is certianly no more objectionable that the "Strange Food" thread. Those disgusting creatures people post pictures of that they've eaten are just as much living things as the furry and fluffy ones.

Yes, wouldn't want pictures of dead cows, pigs, chickens etc either :ha:
We just want the food......don't care how we get it :drum:
It's OK to slaughter animals we eat by the millions...but don't shoot those furry creatures :ha:

Gosh, I just realized I may have posted offensive material last year though maybe it was okay. I posted a photo of a big rat in a trap. I think most people view rats as pests but it might be offensive to someone to see one, I guess. Is this within reasonable limits or not? I posted that photo in the "what did you kill today" thread that was really meant for plants but had gone astray.

Greg, Tiki Hut is there to talk about anything BUT bananas! There have been pics posted here of other dead animals from hunters but the 'ONE' person who found the dead buck pics didn't see them. I've seen some gross pics of dead bugs/insects on the "Weird Food" thread, & whole pigs layed out in market for ppl to buy. But, if ONE person complains about a bad pic or post that is offensive, I think Jarred has no choice but to delete it even though most of us would like to keep it. I wish the person whom it offended woulda pm'd me or the poster of the pics so they could delete the pics themselves instead of having the whole post deleted.
The pic Fishoifc posted, showed the gunshot wound near the shoulder w/ some blood & I think it was the blood that was offensive, but to hunters it showed that it was a good shot! My brother always says, NEVER shoot an animal from behind as it won't kill it & it will just suffer. So, nice shot Fishoifc!

What I think it boils down to is that we can't please everyone everytime. For every topic it may or may not offend someone somewhere. I'm sure when we wished everyone a "merry christmas" it might have offended someone, when we say "GOD bless" it may offend someone. There is just no way to bullit proof every topic. while I can agree that the pics might offend some, but the thread did warn of a hunting topic. I just think that sometimes we can go to far in trying not to offend some people ( not singleing any one person but as a whole ). Does the talk of chemical fertilizer offend those who are organic? how about if we have vegan's who are offended at a recipe for pork wrapped in Banana leaves over a open fire pit? Again I don't mean to preach or push values but the world is over senitive enough. If there is a topic that might offend me then I will not open it, but by no means would I be offended if someone else wanted to talk about it. Thank you for the chance to jump on my soapbox.........

P.S. None of my comments were ever meant as an attack on Jarred. He is a wonderful host here and I dearly apprieciate all the work he has put into the worlds best website.

Patty to be honest I just really dont care . Its no big deal to me I just did not go there and look at the pictures myself thats my freedom I have. Im here to have fun meet people and learn about bananas. I was just trying to throw a little humor into the pot I hope you did not get OFFENDED lol

Dave, there may be some people that post here who do not eat meat so that line of reasoning doesn't really apply unless the person who complained does eat meat, but even then they might not want to see pics of dead chickens or deer, and I personally don't think there is anything wrong with someone not wanting to revel in the killing of an animal whether they eat meat or not. We all know it's a dirty fact of life that animals must be killed in order to eat them, which I most certainly do. I like animals, they taste good!

The posting of pictures and hunting stories doesn't bother me for the most part, and when it does, like with that bear picture, I just look away. I wish others would do the same instead of complaining about it.

Example: I don't read the cold hardy section much because it doesn't interest me. So if someone wasn't interested in hunting then why would they even look at that thread in the first place?

Well at the end of the day it's Jarred's site to run as he sees fit. I'm just happy to be a part of it. :bananas_b

Thanks for the compliment,shot placement is very important to me. since I am a full time fisherman and part time hunter this stuff comes up all the time,nobody ever wins. I once saw a funny comedian joking about save the dolphins, (dolphin safe tuna),what made it funny was he kept saying " what about the tunas there cute and cuddly too"
