i was contemplating piling wood chips around the container in a big mound covering the p stem as well
i think i will just bring it indoors soon

on the bright side
no spider mites indoors this year
they always loved this plant

(keeping on top of a small scale(mealybug) problem but almost pest free this year)

It could be one of those low chill varieties:)

Re: Resilient little lasiocarpas.

i brought it inside last night because it may be -10c overnight tonight
the newest two leafs were pretty mushy
i cut them as low as i could
i am pretty confident that it is just fine and will start growing after an adjustment period

you must have a strong back.

but for all you efforts I do not think it will survive cause it looks like it snows inside your house too.

Awesome Christmas tree.:08:
Beam2050 is right, you might want to turn up the heat and make a fire.

Re: Resilient little lasiocarpas.

Re: Resilient little lasiocarpas.

well my plant is pretty hurting right now
the mushiness goes deep
it needs a haircut
i cut the centre out with a knife as there was rot in there
in a couple days i will trim it some more
for now it has some cedar branches to give the decorations something to hang off

Re: Resilient little lasiocarpas.

it might have been better to skip the christmas tree thing and trim the stem earlier
might have been able to stop the rot from going into the centre of the plant
its not looking so good
in chasing the rot i cut into something more yellow looking in the centre
i will still try to revive it
before haircut:

it was looking promising at first:

i kept chasing the rot in the centre

water was pooling in the centre so i cut a drainage channel

i may have cut into the flower bud
the very centre looked yellowish
also it was rotten quite far down

i wont give up on it but it certainly does not look good right now

Although difficult to see, each new leaf is slightly larger than the one that preceded it. Currently, this is my only banana plant that has made that progress. However, this Winter has been unusually sunny. I should add that the atmosphere is CO2 enriched from ventless natural gas heaters. Also, this was the only banana plant that had a bad mite infestation when I brought it inside from outdoors. I eradicated it with Avid and Bifenthrin. Every plant in the greenhouse was sprayed multiple times and it was a growth setback.

Goal achieved:

The pseudostem is 24" and the flower diameter is 14". It may interest you to know that the flower has a lot of nectar that sort of tastes like corn syrup on pancakes.
