Musa Ornata 'Royal Purple' Bloom!!!

All hello! I have one more flowering and it it has appeared Musa Ornata ' Royal Purple '. I have bought its seeds as Musa Paradisiaca. Probably seeds have been mixed in shop or at assemblage. I at first assumed that it is one of types of Musa acuminata, but was mistaken. It it is possible to define this hour with the big confidence, at flowering that it Musa Ornata ' Royal Purple '. Has passed all some weeks as I have landed it from a pot in the earth. Didn't think at all that it will start to blossom. Here pictures of this event.

very nice.....how long from seed to blooming?

Re: Musa Ornata 'Royal Purple' Bloom!!!

Hi Jack! From the moment of germination of a seed and before flowering has transited 2,5 years. It all this time grew in a pot, then when I have transplanted it in the earth in one month it has blossomed. Best regards!

Color really beautiful, I even itself didn't expect the such. I will hope that the big clump of this type will grow and will be so beautifully to blossom. And nearby clump Musa Violacea increases, should begin flowering in the spring.
Today has made some more pictures.

Beautiful!

I hope mine will flower someday. I have a M. Ornata 'Royal Burgandy' that I got from Brian's Tropicals four years ago. The following Winter, it looked as if it died. It showed no signs of life the following Spring and Summer. Then the following year, I was cleaning the pot it was in, and saw that the rhizome was still firm and fleshy. Out of curiosity, I replanted it in another pot and just watered it regularly. After a few weeks, it produced a green spike. Last Summer it grew to about 3 feet. Then 4 weeks ago, during a cold spell, all the leaves turned brown, though the p-stem looks OK. I brought it with me to my temporary home in Richland, WA, where I work during the week. It's in my living room there with my other bananas and plants. The freeze also ruined my Dwarf Ambarella which had just recovered from the previous Winter's cold snap.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

These are fruits Musa Ornata 'Royal Purple' pollinated by pollen Musa sikkimensis. On fruit it is visible that they more mumpish. I think pollination have passed successfully.

Beautiful! My lavendar is blooming beautifully. If you look in my member gallery you will see it. The sad part is that tonight we are getting down to the 20s so it will probably be hit pretty hard. The kids and I are going to prepare and finish framing our greenhouse, but I doubt I'll have time to dig things up so only potted will make it in there :(

Very Nice !

Does this species die after Blooming ?
Or does it keep growing ?

Thank You..

Re: Musa Ornata 'Royal Purple' Bloom!!!

Pretty sure all bananas are monocarpic meaning they fruit and then that pseudostem dies. Other plants from the main corm will take the place of the main plant.

Someone correct me if this is not right.

Re: Musa Ornata 'Royal Purple' Bloom!!!

Wow, congratulations! What an exciting surprise to find out that your Musa Paradisiaca was actually Musa Ornata 'Royal Purple'! I'm sure you're delighted to see it bloom! I'd love to see pictures if you have any! It's always so rewarding to see something you've planted and taken care of for weeks grow and blossom. I should admit I love flowers, but I'm not very good at growing them myself! I always admire the gorgeous blooms that people cultivate, but I prefer to stick to artificial ones, the huge selection of which is available at artificialmerch.com. That way, I can enjoy the beauty of flowers without the hassle of having to take care of them. Plus, I can switch them out if I ever get bored.
