Blood banana leaf burn
1 Attachment(s)
Hey y’all
Long time lurker, first time posting. Was hoping some one more knowledgeable than me could help me figure out why my blood banana’s leaves are getting burnt looking around the edges Attachment 3563 It’s been in the ground for about a month now, and has been producing new leaves. I’m located in Savannah Ga, which is listed as zone 8b, but I think our downtown microclimate is a bit warmer. Even still we’ve been having cool nights with temps down to the mid 50s and one night last week was 45 Any help appreciated Thank you! |

Pretty plant. I'm just a bit northeast of you, as the crow flies that is. Was it a pup or a tissue culture?

Re: Blood banana leaf burn
Beautiful. There are several/many people here who have a lot of knowledge so I'm sure you'll get some great advice. One thing I've learned is to not water very much at all when they're not actively growing, and our overnight lows are still a bit on the chilly side. Not sure if you're feeding and watering a lot but if you are I'd back off a bit.

Re: Blood banana leaf burn
If I had to guess, I'd think that there might be a breeze drying out the leaf edges. It doesn't look 'baked' which could be from elevated temps and poor air movement, so the opposite might be going on - too much air movement. If you have higher air movement it can suck the moisture out of any plants in that vicinity.

Re: Blood banana leaf burn
Hopefully as this banana matures the leaves will be more resilient? None of my basjoo did this last year, and the Abyssinians right next to it don’t show damage like that either

That doesn't look like a burn. I think the plant may be over watered. With your night time lows the plant is near dormant and needs very little water. ...You said it was producing new leaves. Comparing the two photos see only one new leaf & a new spike. An actively growing nana plant would be doing a new leaf each week. ... So I believe the plant is near dormant and still acclimating to its new home. Cut back on the water you are giving it. .... Foliar feeding it with Miracle Grow fertilizer spray once a week may help while the roots grow. |

I have several bananas that have been in-ground all winter. A dwf Orinoco bloomed about 1st of March and a dwf Namwah bloomed about the end of March. ... The Orinoco is not making any fingers. .... Mostly the bananas are just beginning put out leaves. |
