Windstorm damage in my backyard.

Yesterday a crazy dust storm passed by, visibility was maybe a couple hundred feet. I rushed home from work to find this.

Normally, this is how the shade canopies look.

I even "reinforced" the base of the structure with several of these iron U-hooks driven into the ground, but I guess the hooks are too short, and the wind was too strong.

A few of my shade canopies had their 4 posts buried about 18" in the ground, like this one around a White Sapote, those were not blown over.

I guess I will have to disassemble all tha canopies that I've built and start from scratch, and this time bury the supporting posts in the ground.

Here's where those broken stalks wound up--my kitchen table.

New banana plants, potted rose bushes, begonias and colocasias were safely tucked under covered patio where they stayed nicely dry.
