Hydrophonics 4-dummies (me)-lol
 

Just like the title says id love to know all there is about hydrophonics-(that does mean growing plants in water-i hope) my dilema is i have lil or no knowledge about this subject-but what id like to do is fill my 220 gallon outdoor aguarium with as many plants that i can---can you all help w/this project???

The one thing is that the aquarium is clear. This could lead to algae growing much like when you have fish in it near a window. BTW, it is called hydroponics not hydrophonics.

Thanks for replying and giving me the correct spelling-the aquarium isnt clear its more like a milk jug plastic and is also under neath a car port so i have no problem with the algai-thanks again

Even milk jugish is not opaque enough. When you are growing plants, you will need lots of light and it can penetrate pretty well. I would hope to grow plants you plan to put light under the car port. Here is a tip, if there isn't enough light to grow algae then you probably don't have enough light to grow anything successfully. And translucent isn't the same as opaque.

My problems with hydroponics is that I tend to try to take shortcuts. It is a bad habit and one you shouldn't fall into if you want to be successful.

I play around with hydroponics occasionally but have found that Aquaponics is easier and works better. This is because i have an established koi pond so i link the plants to the pond and use the pond water as the nutrient. It seems to work well for me and the fish.
