Spring and my 2nd yr bajoo in 5 gal has 4 to 6 sprouts - should i thin
Yep - it's Springtime here in zone 7. Last year was my first time keeping banana plants and a few tropicals. I overwintered all plants in 5 gal containers inside my unheated greenhouse. Of course we had one of the worst winters in half a century. I'll have to rethink and heat the greenhouse for tropicals.
None of the tropicals appear to have survived, but 12 pots of the musa bajoo are sprouting up nicely. Only thing is, they are mostly 5 and 6 sprouts per pot. These were tiny plants last Spring and before dying back were 4 to 5 feet tall. I plan to keep most of them in containers. Should i maybe trim to the single most healthy looking sprout per pot? Please advise! |

Yes, if you are keeping them in pots I would thin them down to one or two. If you are ground planting if would leave the whole clump together.
