Small Basjoo plants inside
 

Hi, I just recieved my first few Musa Basjoo plants. They are about 6" tall with 3 or 4 leaves each. They were shipped in a small 4" pot. Should I move them to a larger pot now, or let them grow for a while in as they are? I plan to grow them inside for a few more months until its warm enough to plant them outside. (May/June) Thanks!!!

I would leave them in the 4" pots for now.:woohoonaner:

If they will slide right out of the pot due to being root-bound, then they might need up-potting. If they still have plenty of soil to spare, then it shouldn't be necessary yet.

One thing that I do find important is to give them at least south window facing light, and keeping them warm. If you don't have good light, I think at least a 100watt full spectrum light may be necessary to keep the corms strong as these plants tend to etoliate with indoor conditions.

The ensete maurelii plants that I have kept on my window sills have almost tripled in size in the past 2 months because they are enjoying the south facing windows, but basjoo may have an even higher lighting requirement.

I would CAREFULLLY repot them into a larger pot. If you are keeping them warm for a few months this will allow the roots to develop better for transplanting in May/June. A 4" pot would cause them to get root bound and delay their growth.:2738:

Hi!
I am new in forum and my quostion is similar, can grow basjoo inside at winter? Sumnmer i have planned to keep it outside. I live in Finland. I have not good cellar or little colder place, so my only choice is grow it on window. Can this work?

If it's a new plant you can 'till spring then plant it outside.
