Should I Remove This Pup?

I have a Dwarf Cavendish in a 45 gallon SmartPot that should be getting pretty close to flowering.

Over the last 3-4 weeks, she's put out about 10 pups. Most of them I removed, and a few of them I rooted, but I left one on figuring I'd maybe get a 2nd harvest before I needed to mess with removing the whole plant from the 45 gallon (HEAVY!) container.

But, as a look at the existing pseudostem, it's HUGE! I'm not sure there's room for a second one, even in the 45 gallon.

The pup is now a little over 2' tall.

What do you think? Should I remove it:

Just as a side note...here's a pic showing one of the Cavendish pups I removed in the front-left (and the two in the back), and front-right in the lighter container is a Williams Hybrid I purchased a couple of months ago:

The markings on the Williams Hybrid are just beautiful...here's a close-up of one of the leafs:

If you slice a bit of the pie off the mother corm, then all 3 of those pups should easily be successful.

Steve, thanks!

I'm definately going to remove the smaller pup but would like to see if I can get the larger one to develop and replace the original without having to remove it from the SmartPot, which I know is going to be a PITA.

Just so I'm clear, I assume I should wait until I harvest the mother plant before I take some mass off the corm? Or, are you suggesting I do this now/soon?

beautiful clean specimen of a plant and it sure does look like it wants to flower soon.

If you were to take divisions that small, I think having a section of the corm will help ensure its success since it will have a battery of starch to feed the new pup.

The mother plant will regenerate its corm with no problem since it is much larger, and sometimes injuring it can promote even more pups.

Ok...I got it. I was initially confused by your first answer and thought you were suggesting to leave the pup on and remove some of the crom to make some additional space.

I do understand I should take some of the crom when removing the pups, if I'm going to root the pups.

Thanks, again.
