Re: Musa Gros Michel, what soil mix? CA

100 gals should work perfectly. BUT soil mix is something we go crazy over - for sure needs great drainage, but not too great :-). Needs nutrients - and again, we go crazy on trying for "perfection". Small plants need less, big ones more, and when really big and ready to fruit, even more (duh!) BUT how much more is the question :-) . Soil tests tell one what one needs, but that takes time and money and as plant grows needs change so have to either re-test or adjust. Fertigation is perhaps the easiest way to get a known amount of fertilizer in, but again , one needs to know what the "right" amount is. Too much and you burn or kill, too little and the plant does not do as well as it could.
