Baby variegated banana plant stem turning skinny and browning what should I do?

Hey everyone, I'm really new here.

I recently decided to have keep a variegated banana plant indoors, the stem is currently turning brown and skinny, seeking advice on what should I do to get the banana healthy again? Can it still be salvaged?

Buy a new one ... much bigger that wont be sensitive to the environment.

That one: Too much sun; too much water; & not enough humidity. That TC should still be in a greenhouse under a misting system & filtered shading.

This is AeAe correct? Florida or Hawaiian ver. Either which, if there's one statement I noticed abundantly repeated when I was researching these is the young ones DO NOT LIKE MUCH WATER. This is going to hold doubley true if you are keeping it indoors. From the picture it looks like the soil is way too wet.

They also like heat.

Try repotting it into a half mix of airy/light soil and half perlite. Infact, do more perlite than soil. It won't hurt it. Add ceylon cinnamon to the mix. Good for roots and combating fungus in the soil.

Check the roots and corm. Cut off anything brown/dead looking.

As long as the roots/corm have life, there is always hope! Even if you end up losing the stem and have to start it over. The stem is just made out of leaves, anyway.

Could you give it daily trips outdoors in dappled lighting? Then bring it in at night before the tempertures dip. Even opening a window or running a fan on low on it. Get some air circulation.

Don't let this little guy get too cold. I would say even the 60s might be too cold for it right now. Keep it 70s and higher.

Other things you can do in addition give it a *small* "watering" of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide.

You can also give the roots/corm a bleach bath if you find alot of rot--(look up how to do it if you don't already know how. There are you tube videos.)

Others here will also have great advice. Probably better than mine :ha:

Just do what seems right to you, and monitor the plant closely.

Hope things work out!

Where do you live?

What kind or make of potting soil are you using?

How much or often do you water it?

.....still has a chance but you need to make a change fast!
