Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
Christmas lights underneath to help with the cold temps...
Maybe its the Arizona winter coming on as of recent? or maybe Ive over watered it? It has a distinct smell too that I haven't smelled before, probably of rotting? also the leaves that are brown and floppy and somewhat soft/mushy? Ive had it on 2gph for 30min every M/W/FR recently, during the summer it was 60-90min every M/W/FR. and right now I have the water off, trying to decide on a better time schedule ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What are some of the more hardy bananas that adapt to frost quite well? |
Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
I wonder If I should try to cut out some of the greener pups and put them indoors and hope they can survive?

Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
The stems do not look rotten to me, perhaps it is just cold damage?
I don't think DC's like it much below 50, I would take a pup or two inside. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will jump in. Good luck! |
Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
That just looks like frost damage on the leaves to me. They will turn brown and die.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
Yeah, cold damage was my thought as well.

Definitely frost damage looks like alot of nanners i've seen today after the "snow" we had yesterday.

Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
im planning on taking a couple pups out this weekend.. potting them up, and putting them inside for the winter. for the mother plant I think shes too big to try and dig up? plus the damage is already done as you can see, so should I just wrap the trunk in a bunch of burlap and keep those xmas lights on the ground for added heat and hope for the best?

Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
actually would anyone suggest I dig up the plants and overwinter them?
being in the Phoenix area we do get frost, temps lower 30s |
Re: Dwarf Cavendish root rot? *pics*
Yeah I would dig them all up and bring inside. The leafs are goners but that's ok. Too big to dig up? No that's still a baby =]
Pot them up keep them in a south facing window and water lightly. Try to grab some roots with them all, but if you loose some that's no big deal. If you do a search for 'Over wintering' you will find some good info and other ways to store plants in the off season. Hopefully it's not too late. DC's are rated for zones 8+ |
