Is this the dreaded Sigatoka ?
 

Hi to all,

I'm not really a new member, been lurking for awhile but never posted.
My name is Sebastien, I operate a small plants nursery in southern France.

Having a particular interest in banana plants I decided to add plants of this family to my growing scheme.

In march I then received 70 young Ensete ventricosum, half were the Maurelli kind and hald the classic ventricosum.
A few weeks ago yellow blotches started to appear on the leaves of many of them, and at quite the same time I noticed black dotes appearing and developping on zones of some leaves.

They are grown in pots in a greenhouse that is getting real warm those days but the symptoms started to appear before it got that warm.
I've searched on the internet and some pics of Sigatoka remind me of what happens on my plants but other pics look completely different.

Well, a pic is worth a thousand words, so here are 4 pics taken this morning.
If anyone have any idea, the help would be greatly appreciated.

It Looks like it could be cold damage to me… is the damage only on the older leaves?
Sometimes cold damage doesn’t become apparent until the temperatures rise and the plant starts growing again.

I also have been a member for a while and have never posted but saw the pictures and had very similar concern with 3 DC's that were overwintered in pots in my basement. A couple weeks after putting them outside they started developing very similar spots on the leaves. Tried not to panic and allowed new leaves to come up which had no problems. As more new leaves have come up have cut off the bad looking leaves and about 1 month later all seems fine.

That doesn't look like sigatoka to me. Could be some other disease or some kind of physiological disorder.

OK, thanks for your replies.
First thing I'm gonna do is stop watering them from above with the "sprinkling" system and try watering them manually with the hose without wetting the leaves.

I to have the same problem with new plants received a month or so go. I live in south Alabama and the plats have not been through a Winter yet. In 2 days ink black spots appeared on one leaf. At first I thought it was bird droppings but after closer inspection the spots were black all the ay through the leaf and 3rd day had eaten away through leaf. Today I cut the one leaf off and trimmd another that had a couple of small spots. The spots on leaf I cut off were about the size of a golf ball. We have had alot of rain but no other issues with weather that would cause this. Any ideas other than what as mentioned about freezing weather,,we hve HD none of that. Thanks and would post pics but can't from this cell phone.

Where did your plants come from ? Florida is the only one with BS

Yes, they did come from Florida. Nannerhead,,,,we have had rain every day for almost two weeks. How long after to much sun would this show up on leaf. ? Also, spots on my plant were toward center of leaf and more rounded spots. Als no yellowing around spots as above pics show.
