difficulty in germinating seeds.

Hey, i have a question.
I planted som seeds (different musas) about one month ago. These were planted in different soils and also some in wet towel paper and some in zip bags. In total about 100 seeds. But for the moment no one sproutet. Is this normal? They all are on a warm place and covered of so they wont dry out. Should i be more patient?

hi,

what are the musa species ?
how long were they soaked?
what is the temperature ? (+ constant or day/night variation ?)

+ it sometimes takes months to germinate them (depend on how fresh seeds are)

M. Velutina
M. Laterita
M. Itiherans
M. Balbisiani
M. Beccarrii
M. Red tiger sikkemensis
Ensete glaucum
M. Ornata

Different day and night temp. They are on heating

They were soaked 4 days

i have velutina for 2 month - no germination yet too

for others like sikkimensis , i think&hope germination will come for your seeds.

-----------
Ensete glaucum constant temp is ok, i think.
soaked ensete a little more (7 days)
-----------

i had good results but min quantities for each batch of seeds was 50.
(10 to 30% max germination rate)

Where did you get the seeds from?

How many of each?

The reason I ask is because if you have 10 of each you will be very lucky if any of them germinate.

Large seeds like ensete need longer soaking.

Ensetes need constant temperature.

Musas need alternating temperatures.

If they are good seeds they can take anything between 3 months and a year, but realistically they should be quicker than that.

The seeds come from "zadengigant". It,s a compaany that gets good reviews. I have about 10 to 20 seedsof each kind. Maybe i should just be more patient.

Most sellers buy their seeds from the same few growers abroad and the seeds are stored untill they are sold. If you're lucky the seler keeps the seeds in the fridge untill that time, but not many do. So if you buy seeds, they're almost never really fresh, but sellers will ofcourse always tell you they are fresh.

Kind regards,
Remko.
