Where did you get your 'Cocos' plant? It does not look like 'Cocos' at all to me. Do you have any photos of the bunch as it progressed, closer to harvest?

I completely agree. The bunch is small, sticks out perpendicular to the ground, and has plump 2" long bananas that look like they'll start ripening in a month or so. It was stunted from being transplanted a couple of times, but even taking that into account it doesn't seem like a Cocos to me. I'll take some pics later and post them.

I got it from Pitangadiego a couple of years ago. The person that he originally got it from sold it to him as Cocos. Jon has expressed doubt about the label as well, but I thought it was worth taking a chance on.

Planted my large corm from the dwarf gros michel several months ago and it just sprouted about 3 weeks ago. I had to put it in the ground as I did not have a pot big enough at the time. Thought it might be dead but kept up watering and it decided to sprout in what is supposed to be our winter down here. I had to put up a pop up greenhouse around it but it seems to be doing ok so far. It has 4 or 5 large leaves on it just waiting for it to get some height now.

If Gabe can confirm that this isn't a true Cocos, I'd be more than happy to refund your money. Like I mentioned above, I'm having serious doubts about it now that the bunch is developing.

I've got some new pics that I took today with a new camera, I'll try to post them tonight.

I just removed the banana listings from my website. Since I planted all my corms about 2 feet deep, it's a major struggle to dig down and take pups, and so I had been planning to take down the listing anyway.

I'm 100% sure it's not 'Cocos'. Can't say what it is yet, but keep posting photos, and make sure to keep the male bud on if you haven't already taken it off, it's very important for a proper ID.

That looks like a 'Manzano'/'Silk' (AAB) to me. Cushy greenhouse growth can really skew the typical traits so it looks a little odd (and stunted), but I think that's what you got. It's a really good banana typically, but you got to be careful because the skin splits very easily on the plant when getting close to ripening allow bugs to get in and rot it out, and then the fruit must be very ripe in order to not be astringent. My normal rule for Silk cultivars is that if they look bright and yellow with no green and ready to eat, wait a few days. They really peak at the visual point when most other cultivars look like they are starting to drop in eating quality.

Reminds me of the store bought Manzanos I've had, I think Gabe is right about it being 'Manzano'/'Silk' (AAB). The flavor is amazing, it tastes at least as good as the best store bought Manzano I've ever had. :08:

Well, this plant has liked the weather down here and is now about 5-6 ft tall with several pups around it. I don't really mind that it is not a dwarf Gros Michel but I guess I will keep looking.
