A couple of years ago you could buy a wide variety of musa pups/seedlings in the UK, and they weren't expensive.
Now, there are barely any interesting young plants available, and those that are are often overpriced and being shipped from Holland. I'm assuming that an enterprising person was importing in bulk from someone like Agristarts or whatever, and perhaps they are mistakenly nervous of being saddled with thousands of baby plants that can't ship post-Brexit to EU countries (that would be crazy since EU countries will NOT stop selling to the UK whatever happens! It's about time Britannia 'waived the rules', just like our continental chums usually do). Anyway, if anyone has a Saba, an Orinoco (the non-dwarf if possible, though beggars can't be choosers!) or anything quick and large-growing that they would be happy to send here it would be great to hear from you. Failing that I am seriously considering going to one of the more enterprising international bulk sellers of banana-weenies and ordering a decent-sized air freight consignment to be flown into London, rather like the Berlin airlift of 1948-9. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
